Nicolas Roy is slowly changing scouts’ opinions.
Currently in the middle of a 16-point streak, Roy is off to the best start of his three-year QMJHL career with a young Chicoutimi Saguenéens team. He currently ranks second on his team in points, 27pts in 19 games. He is top-5 in the league for face-offs. He and his line mates Jonathan Bouncier and Gabryel Paquin-Boudreaux may be single-handedly responsible for turning around their team’s season after an 0-9 start. They have gone 10-6 since.
The former First Overall selection in the QMJHL draft will play in his second game of the CHL’s Super Series tonight. He was named his team’s player of the game, from a group of some of the best QMJHL players, from his first game in the series on Tuesday.
Originally ranked as a late second round, early third round prospect (between 47-67 overall by various scouting services) for the 2015, he slipped to Carolina in the fourth round. One of the knocks on Roy was his offensive inconsistency. So far this year, he seems to taken a step in the right direction.
Projected as a third-line, two-way center — not unlike from Cane Brandon Sutter — Roy will need to be able play against more physical players before he’s ready to turn pro. His offensive projects for the rest of the season may elevate him to a potential second-line center. Since the organization has little depth at center outside of the Canes current roster, Roy’s next 1.5 season in the QMJHL will be very important to Carolina moving forward. Having a true top-9, right-handed center will be vary valuable, given how few there are in the league.

“Exceptions” or “Expectations”…
Thanks for catching that. Unfortunately, I published this before I intended to and it hadn’t been edited yet.
I was reading the game report for Karpat and it sounds like Aho got injured in the game tonight. I don’t know what happened, but I hope he’s okay and we find out soon.
He was struck by a puck in the head/neck area in the closing seconds of the game. He was taken off the ice on a stretcher. He maintained consciousness and feeling in all extremities. He was still being treated/observed last I looked.
Yeah, I read that last night. Thanks for the update. Hope he will be okay. I think I heard today that he will be out for four weeks.
Sounded like he was carried off on a stretcher.
