On Friday, October 30 TSN’s Bob McKenzie sent out this tweet that caught me off guard:
CAR prospect Warren Foegele (3rd round) has left Univ of New Hampshire. Not signed with Kingston (OHL) yet but it’s being worked on.
— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) October 30, 2015
Within a few hours the Kingston Frontenacs officially announced Warren Foegele agreed to join the team. Foegele became the second player NCAA player to leave his respective team. Unlike Maple Leafs’ prospect Jeremy Bracco, who had been rumored to decommit or leave Boston College for months, Foegele’s NCAA departure came out of no where.
SB Nation’s Jeff Cox spoke with The Pipeline Show’s Guy Flaming last weekend about this departure. Cox indicated losing Foegele wouldn’t affect UNH as he had minimal impact on the team thus far. UNH went on to win it’s first game with the Canes prospect 4-2 over Merrimack College on Halloween.
I will need to confirm but now that Foegele is eligible to sign a contract immediately, he and the Hurricanes will have until June 2016 to agree on his Entry-Level Contact. Should he fail to sign a deal, he will be re-entered into the NHL Draft.

Really liked Warren Foegele in prospect camp. His aggressiveness and ability to always be around the puck in all 3 zones reminded me a bit of Justin Williams or perhaps Nathan Gerbe.
I wrote this after the prospect camp scrimmage:
“–Warren Foegele. Of the forwards, he ranked second on Saturday. What impressed me was his pace and intensity. Per my Twitter comment below, he jumped out as Nathan Gerbe-esque on Saturday. This is a recipe for driving tempo and creating scoring chances without the puck on the forecheck. When coupled with skill which he also has, it projects very well.” (note 1st was Sebastian Aho)
I’m really glad you guys are doing these regular prospect and Checkers updates. Love these articles, although I like all the other articles on this site as well. Thanks for your hard work guys.
“You guys” is actually an overstatement. ‘The Pipeline’ is all Patrick and ‘Checking In’ is all Jordan.
I too am thrilled as a reader to get these regular updates on the players in the system who we do not hear much about locally.
I meant all three of you and anyone else writing the articles here because I have liked all of the articles on the site so far. But yes thanks to Patrick and Jordan in addition to yourself.
