I watched only parts of the Canes 3-1 win over the Canadiens in a New Year’s Eve social setting, so I will skip writing my usual recap. My tentative hope/plan is rewatch the game on Wednesday. If that happens at a reasonable hour, I will add my usual recap/notes.
At a higher level, the current seven-game home stand represents probably the Hurricanes best chance to climb the ladder and put some space between themselves and the 2020 NHL Playoffs cut line. The 2-0 start is obviously a step in that direction.
Go Canes!
No recap here, but a couple observations.
In spite of Tort’s recent outburst, the NHL has made great strides in “just get the call right” instead of making it about respect for the officials. Games should be decided by the players on the ice, with all playing by the same rules. Part of the attraction of sports is that it is a pure meritocracy and not a political boondoggle.
While slow to adopt “just get it right” the NHL has made great strides in the last couple years. There is still lots of room for improvement, but we are getting further down the curve from “did the puck go in or not”. I appreciate that.
Additionally, the canes video crew has been spot on. While I don’t claim to understand the intricacies of what constitutes goalie interference, the coaches challenges have been used very wisely. Great job guys.
