Go Canes!
Hey Matt, I think your second to last question needs a choice: “Get in my time machine and go back to before the draft so I can pull the contract away from Ward’s fingers. Then go out and sign Montoya to a ridiculously cheap contract.
We were just not aggressive enough in offseason in going after a goalie. minjaben above gives good example. I don’t believe Francis thought ours would start off this bad again. In fact, I didn’t believe they could be consistently this bad. We have Leighton. Let’s try him while we secure another one.
Other: Build a time machine and try the offseason again.
Of course, RF ignored this whole goalie fiasco!
Sooooo I’m not optimistic he will see the light, even now…??
Spending money on a REAL keeper is what he should do (not some cheap b/ up guy)!
Bishop, Fleury, …. should be doable, put IT APPEARS saving money is more important (to him) than winning!
…another long losing season… it’s getting very old!!!
Until THEN… Leighten would be an upgrade IMO!
There are no options. Both goalies have 2 year contracts. Neither could be traded even if RF retains 100% of their salaries. Worse, RF is clueless regarding NHL quality goalies. He clearly doesn’t have the skill set to work through the process of finding an even average NHL goaltender. Expecting RF to suddenly figure it out is as inane as Peters thinking he should give Ward another start following a good performance. Even the most casual fan of this team knows how unlikely it is he could string together 2 solid performances.
RF could waive Cam, and bring up Leighten…hell why not?
It’s called unintended consequences. Were RF to waive Cam he would pass waivers and be assigned to Charlotte. Then what? Last thing we want for the Checkers is Cam’s sad sack body language after a giving up a soft goal. Bad idea for players busting their butts to get to Raleigh. RF has made his bed and now has to sleep in it. Go for it RF, play Cam everyday until Christmas. You wrote the contract, fulfill it. When the club is in the running for the first draft pick in 2017 take credit for a brilliant rebuilding strategy. It’s all you got.
Who should have RF gotten in the off season? Who would have come here? You can complain all you want but what would you have done? MA Fleury or Bishop have no trade clauses so you can forget about them (even if their teams wanted to trade them). Andersen was drafted by the Canes and refused to play here so I doubt a trade would have been possible there. At last look he isn’t doing that well in Toronto. Is Reimer really an upgrade over Ward? B. Elliot? You can complain about the goalie situation (and you’re right it hasn’t been good) but the big question is who do you replace him with and what will it cost?
It’s not all on the goalies btw. The teamhas not been good in front of either goaltender.
Maybe it’s time to find another goaltending coach. Has Marcoux really gotten the most out of his goalies since the summer of 2015?
