Canes and Coffee’s season preview is 4 articles deep and will wrap up with either 1 or 2 more (depending on if I split it up) articles over the next day or 2.
Part 1 looked at the roster transition from 2015-16 to the opening day roster for 2016-17.
Part 2 identified 5 keys for the Hurricanes to improve upon the 2015-16 season.

Questions
1) What will it take for the Carolina Hurricanes to make the 2017 NHL playoffs?
2) What is your prediction for a surprise from the Carolina Hurricanes 2016-17 season?
3) Which, if any, current depth players like Martin Frk, Ryan Murphy, Phil Di Giuseppe or others will ultimately find a regular place in the lineup and make a difference?
4) The Carolina Hurricanes 2016-17 season will be a success if ________.
5) What other predictions do you have for the Carolina Hurricanes 2016-17 season?
Go Canes!
1. League average goaltending. And no more defensive collapses.
2. Multiple players getting 50+ points.
3. PDG. He’s already shown he can play at the NHL level.
4. They make the playoffs.
5. One of Brown, Wallmark, or Ryan gets called to replace Jay McClement.
1. Staal line needs to find its rhythm it had before Nestrasil got injured, Goaltending needs to be better (Lack looked better than last season Lack, I liked that), and the youth need to make less rookie mistakes.
2. Goals will be plentiful for (and against) the Canes throughout the season.
3. Murphy ends up coming back strong, and generates good offense. I don’t think Frk gets a look until our scoring dries up and Peters looks to kick some tires.
4. Making the playoffs. Past couple of seasons the forward momentum has been qualified as “success”, but after how close we came last season making the playoffs would be necessary to be qualified as the next step.
5. Pesce takes a step backwards and ends up back with Charlotte, while Slavin steps up and becomes a big difference maker.
1. Be in a playoff position by USA Thanksgiving.
2. The Canes win the lottery and draft first in June 2017.
3. Murphy could make a difference and it will likely not be positive. Frk will be an average AHLer. PDG will be a serviceable NHL bottom 6 forward baring injury.
4. The Canes will make the playoffs if they can mange a 8 game winning streak before Christmas.
5. Neither Ward or Lack will be drafted by Vegas although both are exposed. Gainsay, McClement and Bickel will be traded at the trade deadline. The extended honeymoon for RFs tenure as GM will end.
