Today’s Daily Cup of Joe assessed the state of the Carolina Hurricanes after a day to digest the loss to the Lightning and hopefully take an even-handed look at where the team is after three games. A discussion has already broken out there, so I highly recommend it as another stop for varied, intelligent thoughts on the Hurricanes right now.
The Coffee Shop today will focus fairly narrowly on the upcoming stretch of three games in four days.

Discussion questions
1) What is the way out of the current mini-funk and the others that inevitably follow over the course of a long season? Does leadership need to fire up the troops? Is it time for the goalies to steal a game or two? Does a key player or two rise up and drive a win? Or…?
2) What changes would you like to see this weekend to try to spark the lineup?
3) As always, if you are new to the Coffee Shop, welcome! …And please feel free to introduce yourself to the neighborhood.
Go Canes!
It’s still early in the season but I do think leadership should step up – lead by example and support. I think we need to mix up the lines. I agree with you on Aho-Staal. Aho needs to be on a more suitable line for him. On the flip side I have thought that other players like Teuvo and Kuokkanen have played better with Staal than on other lines. Teuvo, Aho, Lindy, Rask, and/or Ryan all need to get better and become more offensively minded – and we need to continue the net front work we saw against TB.
Call me optimistic but my gut tells me Darling and the D step up and get a win tonight against the Maple Leafs. Even with their offensive struggles to date, the W is more important than netting a handful of goal so a nice, 2-1 win with a power play goal the difference would start the trip off right. It’s critical they get a win in Toronto because the Blues and Ducks are playing really well with both teams playing a heavier game than the Canes prefer. The usual suspects need to step up but I’m going to put it on the veterans…Staal, Williams and Faulck to take the lead. And Darling….great opportunity to set a tone early in the season by stealing a win or two. I think it starts tonight.
Anyone who REALLY THINKS THAT THIS TEAM is going to WIN???, AS IS… is delusional, IMO!
How can we expect to beat ANY of these upcoming teams?
…maybe if Darling shuts them out?
Bingo!
Wow! Three places to post in one day…this is good therapy in advance of 3-games in 4-nights that otherwise look bleak.
A pessimist is an optimist with experience. Guessing 1-1-1 over the next three. After this stretch GMRF feels the team has enough offense and is on the right track while most everyone else sees differently as we continue to draw minor league crowds.
Ok….taking it one step further since I work with a horde of engineers:
* An optimist will say the glass is half full
* A pessimist will say the glass is half empty
* An engineer will tell you the glass is twice the size it needs to be.
I’ll be here all night…..
