We are definitely inside of the busy and at least sometimes exciting part of the NHL off-season. I feel like I could just open the doors to The Coffee Shop without anything in the article and the discussion would just go on its own. But in the name of work ethic, I will offer the usual set of polls followed by some discussion questions.
It’s a reopening of trade wires at 8am Thursday followed by the start of the draft Friday evening. It could be an interesting couple of days.

Discussion questions
1) What are your thoughts and predictions on the actual draft part of the draft? Which couple players do you really like in which rounds? Anyone gutsy enough to do a full mock draft, please do it in a separate comment with short format 1-Johnson, 2-Smith, 2-Peters, etc. so we can see however many rounds you want to do without burying the regular discussion.
2) Name a trade that you would either like to see or think that we will see by Sunday.
3) What are your thoughts on the new uniforms? Did you order one yet? Will you? If yes, whose name goes on it?
Go Canes!
1. I haven’t come close so far this offseason. So I quit predicting.
Who I like: Pettersson–likely to be gone. So in FIRST either Suzuki, Necas, or Yamamoto. In SECOND Heponiemi, Martin, Fleury, Rasanen. A goalie at some point–Petruzelli or Eriksson Ek.
2. Same as 1.
3. They are fine. Not sure if I will order.
1. ctcaniac says he hasn’t come close this offseason. Well, I haven’t even come as close as ct so I too will sit this one out. I like Tippett and Suzucki in the first, the goalie Luukkon (however you spell it) in the second round.
2. Wallmark and Murphy to Chicago for Anisimov.
3. I like last year’s red jersey better going by the pictures I’ve seen, but the new one’s are okay. I’m sure when I see them on our new players such as MacKinnon, Duchene, or Landeskog I’ll like them better.
I have only read about the players in the draft in a cursory way so I don’t really have an opinion nor will I try to handicap them in any way.
I do expect to get the new jersey this season (best bet a Darling home jersey)- I already have Faulk (black), Lindholm (away) and Aho (home), plus a few without nameplates that I have picked up and won along the way.
I like the trade of TvR. I didn’t know he played with Pesce at UNH. He should be an excellent fit for us at 3P-R – provided we don’t use him as trade bait.
Ok, I’ll give you my mock draft. Typing on this tablet is very slow, so I’m not sure how many rounds I’ll do… not seven, for sure…

1) I think the Canes may draft Owen Tippett for no other reason than I imagine John and Tripp calling a game like so:
John: “They SCORE! Owen Tippett! Out in front! Maybe got a piece of it!”
Tripp: “If so he ought to change his name to Owen Tipped-it.”
John: “…”
2) Hanifin and 2nd rounder to Colorado for Landeskog (or Duchene or MacKinnon). Boom. Let’s go win another Cup!
3) If the storm flags are also back on the road whites and the lace-up collar has been added, then I will seriously consider buying a white jersey since I already have 3 red jerseys. Plus I live outside the Carolina market, so it makes sense for me to get an away sweater to match the boys when they visit. 😉
Assuming he’s going to be around for at least one more year, then I’d go with Cam Ward to be the name on my jersey. My thing with picking players for jerseys is that they should have had a lasting legacy on the team so that the jersey will be memorable for years. Of the players still left on the team, Ward is the only guy who’s made such a contribution (so far) even if it was back in 2006 and not in the current jerseys.
