Adjusted for games played the Hurricanes are three points below the cut line. February and the trade deadline are rapidly approach. And the Hurricanes are sputtering with a 2-6 mark in their last eight games.
To drop a cliche, ‘it’s now or never’ for the Hurricanes.
Today’s set of polls focus on the near-term schedule and take a try at rating the urgency over the next week or so.

Discussion questions
1) Sort of in the same vein of today’s Daily Cup of Joe which made mention of Max Pacioretty, if you were Ron Francis would you consider making a significant trade right now aiming to spark the team and also add help for a playoff push before it is too late? If so, who would you target?
2) What does it take for the first half of February to be a resurgence for the Hurricanes and a push up into the playoff chase?
Go Canes!
1. I think a trade may be appropriate – I certainly think a change of some sort is necessary. Unlike a few others, I am fine with a rental play, if a trade it is, for the remainder of the season. I really don’t think we will get a big name because I don’t think we are going to give up too many chips in the trade.
2. The players have to take ownership and play at the high level they have demonstrated on an inconsistent basis throughout the season. They can’t take nights off – either as individuals or as a team. It’s no longer specifics – every player has demonstrated a high level of compete this season. It has to all be put together. Plus, I think a shake-up of some magnitude is in order.
Pacioretty would be a great start, but…just a start!
More, much more is needed, BUT…I’M NOT OPTIMISTIC!!
Unless RF is prodded (ie. FORCED) to do something…NOTHING HAPPENS…! like always…SOS, different day…
Tom, please make some COMMAND DECISIONS, NOW! …please!
Thanks
I echo RaleighTJ’s thoughts — a trade would be beneficial to shake things up a bit. At this point, I am unsure if GMRF is buying, selling or standing pat — he keeps his cards close, but I like that.
Let’s face it, for the Hurricanes to make the playoffs, February needs to be spectacular. Given past uneven performances and shaky nights in front of the pipes, this will be a tall order for the team. Still, anything is possible.
