Deservedly so, the Hurricanes game on Tuesday has created quite a commotion among the fan base. The 8-1 whooping at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs was obviously not the outcome that anyone hoped for if they managed to free up part of their afternoon to watch the odd 2pm matinee.
Today’s Daily Cup of Joe offers some context for the game, and today’s Daily Cup of Joe will also bandy it around one more time before another game hopefully gives everyone the opportunity to move forward.

Carolina Hurricanes discussion questions
1) What are your thoughts on the team’s erratic play/inconsistency? Is it a matter of youth? Is it a matter of learnign what it takes to win in the NHL? Is it simply a telltale sign of a team that is not that good? Or…?
2) Suddenly approaching the midway point of the 2017-18 season and needing to find a higher gear at some point, what changes would you make to the lineup right now in terms of lines, combinations and goalie? Is it time for a recall or two from Charlotte or a trade?
Go Canes!
I would like to see the team rebound off that ugly showing. If that didn’t wake they up and start to get them playing to their potential I don’t know what will.
We need a new gm and coach ASAP…anything else is an attempt at hiding the problem, or denying it!
1. I think the team is good enough – I thought the team was good enough last year and would have made the playoffs but for those 6 weeks in mid-season. I think we are better this year. I haven’t seen the fancy stats, but I think our 5×5 is solid, even with the defensive lapses. Questionable goaltending (from both, and I think Darling now has a confidence issue that being hung out to dry for 8 goals did not help) and an utter collapse of special teams. There is no success in hockey with PP/PK teams ranked 28th or below.
2. It is past time for call-ups, but I think that is the biggest change – and it we risk losing players on waivers that’s a risk worth taking. The players we would risk are not getting the job done.
Line combos are not proving effective. But then Peters wants to see something I don’t see as being effective. I don’t know what he wants to see, to be honest.
I read somewhere that Peters is trying to coach the team to play a way it is not constituted to play.
The team comes out flat – they can say the right things afterwards. Far better is to play the right way and not have to explain.
