First, a quick light-hearted poll…

And with that, the coffee shop is open for venting, debating, commiserating with fellow fans or whatever else.
Disagreement and debate is fine, but please be respectful of others and also of the players. Losing hockey games and the fact that you have some degree of distance and anonymity on the internet is not good reason to show complete disrespect for other people.
Go Canes!
Let me start by just saying ‘argghhhh!!!’ We all knew that stretch of 4 games was going to be tough, but I still cannot believe how wildly the outlook for 2016-17 has changed in only about 9-10 days time.
When you go from 1 point out of a playoff spot to tied for last in the East and 3rd to last in the entire league in less than a week….a fan base will tend to get discouraged. I think it’s safe to say we should think about selling all we can at the deadline this year to accrue more assets and picks.
Normally a couple of stiff beers will prompt me to watch my favorite Canes moments on youtube. At least that makes me happy for the length of the video. While going into the All Star break like this is awful, it probably came at the best time. Gives players a moment to reflect on what they need to change in order to turn the ship around.
Agree. Things feel 5X worse than the reality of the standings right now because of the losing streak. It is not impossible that a couple days away and a big win on Tuesday changes the direction.
I mean did anybody expect Cam to stay on hid A game all year? Lol, no this is disappointing but I take all the solace in our youth and future.
I thought Cam looked better last night ,after his rough outs last week. Now if the team can just do so……
The game should not have been scoreless deep into the 3rd; we had plenty of chances and should have scored at least one goal. Everyone just seems uptight and we’re really “fighting it.” You had that feeling the game was a “first one to score” wins by the 1st intermission. Unfortunately for us, they’re big players made a big play.
This is exactly when not having a player in the locker room with a “C” on his jersey matters. That would be the person to remind everyone how good this team was 2-3 weeks ago, especially at home, and to remind them of how much fun they were having.
All is not lost but beating Philly and NYI next week sure looks especially urgent.
This has really been an odd season in the way this team has taken us from the highest highs to lowest lows so rapidly. And it’s not only been from the home game winning streak, to what we’re now experiencing, it’s also been within the individual games. I can still recall those early games this season, when we had those 3 goal leads suddenly vanish in a heartbeat (and we all knew at the time we were going to need those points). High to low. Then we had a few of those comebacks ourselves. Low to high. Then it just seems like yesterday (actually it was around 13 yesterdays…) we were within one point of a playoff spot. Now it’s going to be a struggle just to get back within shouting distance. High to low. This season has been a true roller coaster ride, but I’m afraid now the ride may be over. Unless the last five games have just been the team slowly climbing a hill, and they’re now ready to crest that hill, to send us all screaming toward a thrilling end. We can only hope.
It would be really interesting to see a count of games Canes either blew or made up a 3-goal lead plus maybe 2-goal leads in the 3rd period relative to other seasons. It does feel like there have been a lot of wild swings inside of games.
It’s too bad we’re not privy to Ron Francis’s rebuild timeline. Are the current team and prospects ahead of schedule, on par, or behind the curve? Knowing that would go a long way towards letting us Caniacs know if we really should be optimistic, patient, or frustrated. Since RF hasn’t done anything that would indicate panic, he probably doesn’t think the rebuild is lagging. Still, if this year’s team doesn’t at least improve on last year’s record, that would be a pretty big cause for concern.
Also, regardless of the team as a whole, one of my concerns is goaltending. Even the best evaluation of Ward has to acknowledge that he’s past his prime and not the goalie of the future. But then who is? The Canes had to ride Ward during most of this latest stretch because it apparently didn’t want to start Nedeljkovic. Either they’re still coddling him, or they don’t feel like he gives the team a chance to win. Would Ned really get lit up so badly that he can’t be trusted with a start for fear of destroying his confidence or dooming the team’s chance to win? (I presume Ned is ahead of Altshuller on the depth chart since he was called up and actually got to play in a game.)
And one more thing … the league didn’t do us any favors by picking #27 to be our all-star Rep.
I realize he may be the face of the Canes from the league’s perspective, but I’m quite sure he hasn’t been our best player, and I’m even more sure that the players in the locker room would have voted for someone else.
Wonder whether there’s conflict not being surfaced.
Call me a conspiracist.
Ok, my views are probably well known about goalies and spending for a top6 forward, but a couple of pleasant surprises on this team are McGinn and Ryan… so at least they give us some hope.
Time will tell if any improvements are made (some money spent), or if we have to hope for some water to turn into wine…and not vinegar!
