Earlier I posted my thoughts on the Brett Pesce half of the Canes recalls today. You can find that HERE.
Brock McGinn could also see his first NHL action on Friday or Saturday depending partly on Coach Bill Peters’ plan and partly on the status of Joakim Nordstrom who is dinged up.
The timing and situation could not be better for Brock McGinn to use a single game to make an impression and carve out a role. The Hurricanes are coming off a lackluster effort that saw Coach Bill Peters fuming in his post-game press conference. He desperately wants more fire. The team desperately needs more fire. Brock McGinn’s style of play when it is going is all about fire and jam. If McGinn gets into the lineup and manages to fly around, bring some rough and tumble and hit stuff like he is capable, that alone could win him additional ice time right now. Scoring (yeah, the Canes need more of that too) would only be a bonus.
Best guess is that he will slot into the lineup on the left side of Jay McClement on the fourth line, but that is not a bad entry point. First of all, it was actually one of the team’s better lines on Tuesday which should earn some ice time on Friday. And there are enough players in the top 9 who are not getting it done right now that a good couple shifts on the fourth line could be enough to jump to a higher spot quickly right now.
Go Canes!
