This season is the most anticipated hockey card season in a decade due to rookies Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers and Jack Eichel of the Buffalo Sabres. Rookie cards drive hockey card products and with 2 generational talents this year the interest will be as high as 2005-06 when Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin were both NHL rookies. This will also be a special year for Hurricane fans with rookie cards of first round draft pick Noah Hanifin as well as first card appearances for Danny Biega, Rasmus Rissanen as well as possibly Keegan Lowe.
Upper Deck, the only NHL licensed card manufacturer this season, has already announced that its first 4 releases this season have sold out. The first product that will include McDavid in an Oilers uniform will be Upper Deck Series 1 which is scheduled to be released in early November. NHL rules require positional players to appear in an NHL game before they can have a card issue. So the hockey products (O Pee Chee, MVP & Artifacts) already released this year only had redemption or exchange cards for a card of McDavid.
