Now officially into September, the Hurricanes hockey news should start picking up especially in 2 weeks when we get the start of training camp, the World Cup and the Traverse City prospect tourney. But this week did offer enough Canes coverage to get us through another week.
Raffi Torres
Easily the biggest news item of the week was the signing of controversial Raffi Torres to a tryout contract for training camp.
Luke DeCock at The News & Observer agrees with many and says that the signing makes “no sense.”
Chip Alexander at The News & Observer offered an interview with Raffi Torres.
Another summer Hurricanes hockey coverage change
In an offseason full of Hurricanes hockey coverage changes, another occurred this week. Founder and long-time leader of Canes Country, Bob Wage, has left Canes Country and is in the process of launching a new site. I am a big fan of what Bob did over many years with Canes Country and his role in our hockey community. I cannot wait to see what he does at this new site.
Bob Wage penned a farewell article at Canes Country this week.
Carolina Hurricanes 2016 draft picks playing in the NCAA this season – Max Zimmer, Matt Filipe and Jack LaFontaine
Here at Canes and Coffee, we also had 3 articles this week that all featured external content, more specifically interviews from 2015-16 coaches and team insight from people who cover their 2016-17 teams for the three 2016 draftees who will be playing in the NCAA this season. If you missed these articles, you can find them here:
Real hockey is near. FINALLY!
Go Canes!
Yet another hockey article, without a single original or novel thought, from the ultimate journalistic hack of hacks spun to create the maximum amount of negative publicity for the team. I have 2 regrets, a. I broke my resolution never to read anything he wrote again, and b. that I can only cancel my subscription to the N&O once to protest his tripe.
Surgalt, could not have stated better. How the N&O can keep this guy around just continues to boggle the mind.
