After an extended hiatus for the Sunday Canes Chronicle, I figured a weekend with no Canes hockey would be good timing to queue up a batch of Carolina Hurricanes reading from across the web.
With it being the NHL All-Star weekend, there are a couple articles on that topic but also a random collection of other stuff too.
Noah Hanifin at the NHL All-Star game
Michael Smith from the team website did a great job of capsulizing Noah Hanifin’s Saturday at the All-Star game in this article. Hanifin’s comments about his gradual development offensively are interesting and match up with his fairly sudden transformation.
Another All-Star with Hurricanes ties – Eric Staal
Sarah McClellan from the Star Tribune wrote a cool off-ice feature on Eric Staal both looking back at his childhood family and also at his family of five today.
More on owner Tom Dundon
Tom Gulitti from NHL.com wrote another article about Tom Dundon, providing another round of insight on the Canes new owner.
Closer to (Tom Dundon’s) home, Karen Robinson-Jacobs from The Dallas Morning News wrote an article on Tom Dundon with a good number of quotes from Dundon and also others.
The physics of hockey
UNC-TV did an interesting segment on the physics of hockey involving Hurricanes’ players that you can find here.
Bill Peters
The Coaches Site recently ran an article with insight into how Bill Peters worked his way up to the NHL level and a couple other topics.
Max Pacioretty
On January 17, Andrew Berkshire at Sportsnet offered a detailed statistical break down for Max Pacioretty and made a case for a high value on the trade market.
Earlier this week Canes and Coffee suggested that the Hurricanes should consider targeting Max Pacioretty.
Carolina Hurricanes prospect updates
In case you have missed them, we started into our 2018 “Midterms” series that provides updates on Canes players below the AHL level.
Jack LaFontaine — University of Michigan
Luke Stevens — Yale University
Go Canes!
Just returned from Montreal after that entertaining offensive showcase Thursday night. Figured to share some thoughts as it relates to Dundon looking for better fan experiences in Raleigh.
Montreal is obviously a different beast and a place I’ve been fortunate to visit often being less than 4-hours away. Everything from the anthem presentations, mix of organ/music selections and in-game entertainment was and always has been spectacular (more hockey centric, less hokey) to the point it makes you feel like you’re at the Olympics or playoff game every game. The tickets are very large and printed with players on them, makes it THE EVENT you want to be at. Certainly helps to be able to walk from my hotel to the game and tear it up afterward at the lively bars. Besides the awesome tailgating when my wife and I visit Raleigh, always missed the other parts with in-game experience. I’m sure Dundon will be visiting various arenas and taking tidbits from each, and Montreal would be a good place to start.
Off topic, sat nearly under the press booth and had a nice “thumbs up” exchange with John and Tripp…which my wife enjoyed. Anyway, glad to be back in the states and looking forward to Hanifin potting some goals in the 3×3 tournament today. This game should suit his style.
