With a somewhat busy trade deadline passing mid-week and a couple more games played, the Carolina Hurricanes have officially moved into the last quarter of the 2016-17 season.
This week’s Canes Chronicle goes a couple different directions with articles on Bryan Bickell’s work toward an NHL return, check ins on Hurricanes’ prospects, a look back on the 2017 NHL trade deadline and a small dose of sunshine for Caniacs who need it.
Bryan Bickell
Michael Smith from CarolinaHurricanes.com wrote about Bickell’s preparation to take the next step to return to the NHL.
Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Citizen also wrote about Bickell’s return to the ice and included a good number of quotes from Bickell himself.
Carolina Hurricanes prospects
Matthew Barlowe at Cardiac Cane checks in on Jake Bean who has put together a strong 2016-17 after an early season injury.
Canes and Coffee’s ‘Midterms’ series continued with a check in on 2016 Hurricanes’ 4th-rounder Max Zimmer who is a freshman at the University of Wisconsin.
Laney Byler from The Michigan Daily writes about the University of Michigan’s goalies including Canes prospect Jack LaFontaine.
The 2017 NHL trade deadline
Greg Wyshynski from Yahoo’s Puck Daddy detailed the winners and losers of the 2017 NHL trade deadline. (Note the Hurricanes 2 deals for draft picks did not make either category.)
A menu of all of Canes and Coffee’s pre-deadline articles including evaluations of the Ron Hainsey and Viktor Stalberg deals is HERE.
And HERE Canes and Coffee graded General Manager Ron Francis’ trade deadline work.
For another report card on Ron Francis’ work, check out Justin Lape’s article at Canes Country.
Pierre LeBrun from ESPN.com wrote an article already looking forward to a couple factors that could make the summer an even bigger trading event.
In need of Caniac sunshine?
Finally, if you are in need of Caniac sunshine to get you through the down times, J.C. Bobbitt at Section 328 has you covered.
Go Canes!
More sunshine. The Canes wake up in Arizona in 28th place in the league fourth in the draft lottery just behind the Knights. Tonights a four point game with the team ahead of the Knights. We know the best outcome of today’s game. Let’s hope Ward or Lack can pull it off.
I commented (rather truthfully, maybe harshly, but accurately) on his IRRATIONAL PATIENCE (my words) with FRANCIS-gm… Doing nothing but getting a few cheap draft picks (every year) hasn’t (and never will) bring in the STAR PLAYERS we need to make the playoffs,
let alone win ONE!!!
At least this year RF has managed to make our team SO BAD… we might get THE TOP PICK IN THE DRAFT…two or three more years of the EDMONTON PLAN…and who knows? I’ll probably be dead, but THEN THIS TEAM COULD BE COMPETETIVE…???
