For Monday, I will get back to blogging 2015-16 Carolina Hurricanes, but first I wanted to take one more jaunt down memory lane with some blogs over the past 10 years from Hockeybuzz.

1) Cam Ward Plays 500th game — Canes Win!

February 24, 2015

I wrote this for the ceremony to celebrate Cam Ward’s 500th game as a Cane.  I love what he did in the 2006 playoffs as much as anyone, and his 2008-09 is probably the best for a netminder in Canes history.  But to this day my favorite Cam Ward moment was his debut in the home opener as an unproven 21-year old rookie when he just looked like he was meant to be there regardless of readiness and then stoned Lemieux, Crosby and Palffy in the shootout to earn the win.

2) Rd 1 Gm 7 At NJ: A 2nd instant classic ending to a classic series — WOOOO!

April 28, 2009

This was the first of two stunning game 7 wins in the 2009 playoffs that resulted in crazy celebrations in the middle of the night to welcome the team home (from New Jersey in this case).

3) The Tim Gleason blog: Thank you!

January 9, 2014

This was a tribute blog for Tim Gleason shortly after his trade to Toronto on January 1, 2014.  Gleason obviously returned to the Canes later, but this was least a temporary goodbye and fitting tribute.

4) Rod Brind’Amour night in Raleigh

February 18, 2011

This was written for the day Rod Brind’Amour’s jersey was set to go to the rafters in PNC Arena.  The blog mentions a couple of the standard highlights you would expect but importantly for me also called out his decision to stay and lead his team to better times rather than bolt for it during the down years of 2002-03 and 2003-04.  It also called out a random play that I think epitomized how he played the game.

Hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend!

Only 15 days to the first preseason game!  (That just sounds better than the countdown to opening night which seems too far away.)

Go Canes!
