Hockey is almost here. The World Cup teams played exhibition games this past week. The list of Hurricanes players taking part in the informal skates at RCI is growing. Today’s hop around the internet looking for Canes news yields a few great articles for heading into the formal start of training camp.

The next wave – Sebastian Aho and Julien Gauthier

Robert Nasso at Today’s Slapshot has Canes prospect Julien Gauthier as 1 of 3 CHL players to keep an eye on for the 2016-17 season.

Ryan Kennedy from The Hockey News includes Sebastian Aho in a prospect/rookie round up.

Canes-centric view of the World Cup

As noted above, exhibition games for the World Cup started this week. The Hurricanes participation in the event is light with Coach Bill Peters part of the Team Canada staff and Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho playing for Finland. Andrew Schnittker from North Carolina State’s Technician offers this Canes-centric view of the World Cup tourney.

Andrej Nestrasil and his recovery

News & Observer intern Ben Pope wraps up an incredibly good summer covering the team with an article on Andrej Nestrasil’s recovery from a scary back injury last February.

Hurricanes media day and the transition away from Eric Staal

Friday was media day for the Carolina Hurricanes which makes a number of players available for interviews and a good amount of video footage. Below are a few of the more interesting results:

Brian LeBlanc from Canes Country has some comments from Jordan Staal on the absence of Eric and also short videos of interviews with Justin Faulk, Elias Lindholm and Joakim Nordstrom.

Photos from Hurricanes informal skates

If you cannot fit a visit to RCI into your daytime schedule to see the growing group of Hurricanes players working out, Jamie Kellner’s Hurricanes photo site is the next best thing. It should be busy over the next few weeks with the addition of more fresh pictures.

We are getting really close to REAL on-ice hockey at least in the form of practices, scrimmages and preseason games! Who else is fired up?

Go Canes!
