On Sunday, the talk in the sports world will be on the match up between the Patriots and the Falcons and the boat load of commercials that fill the gaps in the game. And this time of year, ACC rivalries are also front and center though usually on the hardwoods.

But to fill the morning and/or afternoon for those who are Hurricanes hockey-inclined and not needing the extra 8-9 hours of all-day Super Bowl coverage, this week’s roundup of news from around the internet includes links to articles detailing Canes prospects on the move at the Canadian juniors trade deadline, the fun UNC vs. NC State hockey match up at PNC Arena this week and more.

Hurricanes prospects on the move

This is a bit of catch up since these trades are a couple weeks old. With the Canadian juniors trade deadline passed, a few Hurricanes’ prospects now have new teams.

Sportsnet profiles Julien Gauthier in an article about his trade to the Saint John Sea Dogs.

Peter Ruicci at the Sault Star interviews Noah Carroll about the playoff hopes of his new team, the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

Morgan Beard from YourErie.com discusses the trade that brought Warren Foegele to the Erie Otters.

In addition, the latest ‘Midterm’ Hurricanes’ prospect update at Canes and Coffee featured Janne Kuokkanen.

UNC versus NC State hockey at PNC Arena

In case you were tied up on Thursday and Friday and missed the flurry of activity, NC State beat UNC 3-1 at PNC Arena on Thursday night in front of a crowd estimated at 6,000 with fine hockey trumped only by an electric atmosphere.

Andrew Schnittker from the Technician offers this recap of the game from the Wolfpack side.

And for the Tar Heel-inclined, Carolina Hockey Central wrote this article on the ‘Backyard Brawl’ between UNC and NCSU.

Charles Taylor from Cardiac Cane offered this account of the UNC/NCSU match up.

In addition to 2 preview articles from each side including a ‘Coach’s Corner’ segment for each team, Canes and Coffee offered this recap that focused on the tremendous atmosphere.

Maybe the best Hurricanes article this week, not to be missed

Brian LeBlanc from Canes Country wrote a great article profiling Hurricanes PA announcer Wade Minter whose goal calls are quickly becoming the stuff of Carolina Hurricanes lore.

Tip-toeing toward the 2017 NHL trade deadline

Like so many other teams, the Hurricanes’ role in the 2017 NHL trade deadline is completely in limbo as February plays out and determines who is a seller and who is a buyer, but it is still interesting to keep tabs on who might be available.

From the category of ‘the Canes could still use a little bit more pure scoring talent’, Chris Nichols from FanRag Sports Network checks on on NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman who suggests that Jordan Eberle could be available.

Go Canes!
