On a slow hockey Saturday in late July, Canes and Coffee’s second anniversary came and went yesterday. If you missed it, check out the article posted on the site’s second birthday.

In terms of hockey news, the last week of July was not surprisingly a slow one. Canes fans who checked in did get two news bits. Probably most noteworthy from a Hurricanes’ standpoint is the fact that Chuck Greenberg was in town and spotted touring the Hurricanes’ practice facility per Chip Alexander at the News & Observer. And on Friday, the Hurricanes re-signed their final restricted free agent, Phil Di Giuseppe, to a one-year, two-way deal.

The anniversary edition of the Sunday Canes Chronicle has articles on the two news points, a couple other articles and a directory of sorts for set of eight articles for reader/guest week this past week at Canes and Coffee.

Phil Di Giuseppe

Canealytics article at Section 328 on Phil Di Giuseppe is actually a couple weeks old but good for this week with his re-signing on Friday.

Our article here at Canes and Coffee on Friday looked at his contract and also offered a fairly deep dive considering where Di Giuseppe might fit in a suddenly crowded Canes forward lineup.

Early assessments for Ron Francis

Andrew Schnittker at North Carolina State’s Technician offered a favorable mid-summer review of Francis’ work in his article entitled, “Francis sends clear message with busy Canes offseason.”

Satchel Price at SBNation also gave Francis high marks for the offseason in his article on July 13.

Finally, see where fans rank Ron Francis among the 30 NHL general managers in Dome Luszczyszyn’s article at The Hockey News that used fan polling to for scores across six categories to rank the GMs.

Fun summer reading

Ryan Kennedy at The Hockey News looked into his crystal ball and took an early try at projecting the Hurricanes’ 2020 lineup.

If you instead prefer a trip a few years backwards in Hurricanes history, check out our interview/check in with former Canes anthem singer KK Fritsch.

Chip Alexander at the News & Observer wrote about Chuck Greenberg’s “fact-finding visit” to Raleigh this week.

Reader week at Canes and Coffee

If you were away, Canes and Coffee had guest articles from Bob Wage from CanesEdge, Ben Pope formerly from the News & Observer, Cory Sznajder formerly from The Shutdown Line and wrapped up with a fun check in on former Hurricanes anthem singer KK Fritsch. Reader articles featured a salary cap projection, top moments from 2016-17, a prospect camp evaluation and players on the spot.

You can find links to all eight articles HERE.
